Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division has crafted another Range Rover special, the ultra-luxurious SVAutobiography.
Debuting at the New York Auto Show later this week, the flagship Range Rover model is a the most powerful production Range Rover ever with 550PS (542hp) from an optional supercharged V8 engine specially tuned for SVAutobiography. That’s exactly the same power as theRange Rover Sport SVR, also built by SVO.
Replacing the Autobiography Black at the top of the Range Rover lineup, the Range Rover SVAutobiography features a distinctive duo-tone paint as well as an enhanced interior with premium leather and unique trim finishes.
Available in standard and long wheelbase variants, the 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography offers a duo-tone body color option for the first time on the flagship SUV. Range Rover offers a combination of Santorini Black upper body and nine other color choices for the lower body.
Other exterior upgrades include new Range Rover bonnet lettering, SVAutobiography badge placed on the tailgate and a distinctive front grille finished in Graphite Atlas and polished chrome. Additionally, on models fitted with the optional 542hp V8, quad tailpipes are also featured.
Obviously, the highlight of the 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography is the interior, which features solid aluminum driver controls, including start-stop surround, rotary controls and foot pedals. Both the front and rear center consoles feature a similar treatment, with distinctive materials for the cup holder and socket covers.
Rear-seat passengers get luxurious seating, a chiller compartment and powered deployable tables. Solid aluminum coat hooks are incorporated into the rear pillars while aluminum seat rail finishers and deep twist pile mohair carpet mats add to the special ambience.
The SVAutobiography also offers the option of a sliding load space floor. Made from aluminum and a choice of veneer options, the floor extends rearwards for easier loading and unloading. Another special feature is called “Event Seating” and consists of two improvised seats stowed in the luggage compartment that can be quickly and easily deployed on the tailgate lower.
Performance-wise, the all-aluminium 5.0-liter V8 supercharged engine has been re-tuned for the SVAutobiography. The unit produces 550PS (542hp) and 680Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque available at 3,500rpm. Mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, the engine has been optimized for “unparalleled comfort and refinement.” No performance specs were offered.
The Range Rover SVAutobiography, along with the updated Range Rover 2016 model year lineup, will be on sale from summer 2015.
