26-Year-Old Woman Arrested For Petrol Bombing Three Houses

Investigations led to the arrest of a 26-year-old on Saturday for her alleged involvement in the recent petrol bombing of three houses in Ennerdale‚ south of Johannesburg.

The woman was placed under arrest several hours after the houses of three people who participated in an anti-drug protest were petrol bombed.

The woman appears in court on Tuesday morning and until then, her identity remains anonymous. She was identified through a CCTV footage retrieved from one of the bombed houses.

Spokesman for the police Major Mack Mngomezulu confirmed the arrest saying that the police were still combing the city for other suspects who may have helped in the bombings.

Major Mngomezulu said that the crime which the woman had been charged with is malicious damage to property.

Meanwhile, the woman’s sister who was spotted at the police station‚ said her family is not happy with the way the case was being handled. She lamented that her sister had been charged with arson and malicious damage to property‚ among other charges which she insisted that she couldn’t have done. She also said the family is ready for them in court and cannot wait to see the footage that links her to the petrol bombing.

“My sister could not have gone around burning people’s houses. She has been falsely accused‚” said the sister.

“We found her a lawyer and we want to see the footage when she appears in court tomorrow.”

The three houses were burnt down in the early hours of Saturday, just a few days after a small group of community members led a protest to an alleged drug dealer’s house where they camped, burning tyres at the gate.

The alleged drug dealer however denied any involvement in selling drugs.

“I do not know why these people are accusing me of being a drug dealer. I am not a dealer‚” he said.

“Now‚ I am scared of going out and feel like a prisoner.”
