Buthelezi: Khune must be level-headed

Cape Town – Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Linda Buthelezi believes goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune could still reclaim his position in the Amakhosi set up.

The Spider-kid has been battling with injuries since the beginning of the 2015/16 Premiership campaign, only making eight appearances in all competitions for Kaizer Chiefs.

His absence from the team has given a chance for young keeper Reyaad Pieterse to claim the number one jersey at the Soweto club,

However, Buthelezi maintains the Ventersdorp-born keeper will return to the number one spot, if he keeps working hard and pulls extra training on the side, to get back to his form.

“He must be level-headed and always work hard and he also needs to work with the team. He must know sometimes he must work alone,” Buthelezi said in an interview with Goal website.

The former midfield general also put emphasis on the importance of having the right attitude, and a positive spirit if the goalkeeper wants to return to the top and earn a call up to the national team.

“His attitude will go a long way in determining whether or not he makes a return to the national team and grabs a spot abroad,” he explained.

“The main important thing is the attitude. As long as he gets the attitude right.”

Khune is said to be in his first weeks of rehabilitation after he suffered a knock during the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates in January.
