BMW billboard causes a stir
The billboard that was, until recently, near FNB stadium, featured the outline of a Mini cooper with a large hole where the vehicle should be. The billboard read, “Drive it like it’s stolen!”
The link between this advert and the terrible incident in which jailed hip-hop star Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and a friend drove into a group of Soweto pupils (while drag racing in Mini Coopers) has been made by the public. It has caused a huge upset. Not only does it remind people of the incident, but appears to promote speeding and theft.
BMW has spoken out and apologised, and explained that it was not the intention of the advert. The billboard has been removed.
