  • Everyone has the right, peacefully and unarmed, to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket “ and to present petitions.

  • TELL YOUR LOCAL AUTHORITY AT LEAST 7 DAYS BEFORE YOU PROTEST.
  • NOTICE MUST BE IN WRITING, SIGNED BY THE CONVENOR.

16 OR MORE = A GATHERING

  • NO GATHERING ON PRIVATE LAND WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION.
  • NO GATHERING WITHIN 100M FROM A COURT DURING THE WEEK UNLESS YOU HAVE WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM A MAGISTRATE.
  • NO GATHERING IN OR NEAR PARLIAMENT IN CAPE TOWN OR UNION BUILDINGS IN PRETORIA/TSHWANE UNLESS YOU HAVE WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THE CHIEF MAGISTRATE OF CAPE TOWN OR DIRECTOR GENERAL: OFFICE OF THE STATE PRESIDENT RESPECTIVELY.

IF ARRESTED, YOU COULD GO TO JAIL FOR UP TO A YEAR OR BE FINED R20000 FOR ILLEGAL ACTIVITY AT A MARCH.

SINCE 2008, MORE THAN 2 MILLION PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN TO THE STREETS TO PROTEST IN SA EVERY YEAR.

NOT THE FACE!: Tear gas and Pepper Spray

DURING:

  • STAY CALM, DO NOT PANIC.
  • MOVE UPWIND OR TO HIGHER GROUND. BLOW YOUR NOSE, RINSE YOUR MOUTH WITH WATER, COUGH, SPIT. DO NOT SWALLOW.
  • DO NOT RUB YOUR EYES.

AFTER:

CLEAN YOUR HANDS WELL AND RINSE EYES WITH CLEAN WATER. CUP WATER INTO YOUR EYES 10 TIMES. 


WASH YOUR FACE WITH A GENTLE SOAP, PUT AN ICEPACK OVER YOUR EYES TO SOOTHE BURNING.

  • REMOVE AND WASH CLOTHES.
  • SHOWER
  • DISCARD CONTACT LENSES – THEY CAN’T BE CLEANED.

MAY CAUSE:

STRESS | CONFUSION | FEAR | PANIC | RAGE
