Which Premier League game produces the most goals?
If you were forced to choose a Premier League fixture that has provided the most goals since 1992, without any means of research, there is a stromg likelihood you would go for Liverpool and Newcastle United.

Perhaps more than any other game Liverpool’s 4-3 win at Anfield on Wednesday April 3 1996 sums up the chaos and the excitement of the Premier League, and it is regularly voted No1 in polls to discover the division’s best ever game.

When the corresponding fixture the following season also finished 4-3, with Robbie Fowler scoring the last minute winner, it cemented the fixture’s reputation as the Premier League’s go-to game for goals.

It is perhaps more surprising that just as many goals (129) have been scored in games between Liverpool and Tottenham during the Premier League era (but from five more fixtures).

In the past three years both sides have won the fixture 4-0, while Liverpool have also won 5-0 (at Spurs in Dec 2013) and 3-0 (again at White Hart Lane, earlier this season) while there was also a 3-2 win for Liverpool at Anfield in March 2013.

The North London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal is just one goal behind with 128 goals from 45 Premier League fixtures.

Which fixture produces the most goals per game?

Everyone remembers Liverpool’s back-to-back 4-3 victories at Anfield in 1996 and 1997, Collymore’s late winner and Kevin Keegan slumped behind the advertising hoardings, but on three other occasions the fixture has produced six goals – Liverpool’s 6-0 win at St James’ Park in April 2013, their 5-1 victory there in 2008 and the Michael Owen and Karlheinz Riedle- inspired 4-2 win at Anfield in December 1998. With 3.225 goals per game it is the clear leader.

Who has won most the most games between Liverpool and Newcastle?
Liverpool have been by far the most dominant in the 40 meetings between the two sides with 23 victories against Newcastle’s nine. There have been eight draws. You have to go back to Newcastle’s first season in the Premier League, 1993-94, for the last time they did the double over Liverpool.

Andy Cole scored a hat-trick in the 3-0 win for Kevin Keegan’s newly promoted side at St James’ Park in November 1993 before Rob Lee and Cole scored in a 2-0 win at Anfield in April 1994 in the penultimate game before the old Kop was demolished.

What is the highest scoring fixture of all time in English football?
Despite what you may often be led to believe football didn’t begin in 1992. The game that has produced the most goals in the history of English football is Aston Villa versus Everton with 618 goals in 199 league games, an average of 3.10 per game.

Of those 199 matches Aston Villa have won 72, Everton have won 74 and there have been 53 draws.
