Following the path of most other Apple products, the Apple Watch will now be sold in Best Buy stores across the U.S.
The much talked about smartwatch will be available at Best Buy brick and mortar stores and at BestBuy.com beginning August 7.
“The Apple Watch is an important addition to an emerging product category, and we know our customers want it,” a Best Buy spokesperson said in a statement on the company’s website on Sunday.
Although the move is relatively predictable, given the current presence of Apple retail kiosks in Best Buy stores, it is nevertheless an odd one given the high-end marketing push Apple put behind the product during its launch.
To that point, it should be noted that Best Buy has only confirmed the availability of the Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Sport, not the $10,000-plus Apple Watch Edition. However, the company did confirm that Apple Watch bands would also be on sale in conjunction with the smartwatch itself.
Despite the relatively low-budget profile of Best Buy, Apple itself is fairly enthusiastic about the new retail channel. “[W]e are thrilled to begin offering it at Best Buy locations across the U.S.,” an Apple spokesperson told Mashable.
According to Best Buy, the electronics chain will be the only store other than official Apple Stores to offer the Apple Watch (for now). Initially, the device will be available at 100 Best Buy stores, with another 200 stores to be added in time for the holidays.
