Family, friends and colleagues of Tshepo Ngwane will be paying their last respects to him this weekend
Friends, fans and colleagues of the Yizo Yizo and Zone 14 actor will be paying tribute to him on Thursday.
Ngwane’s memorial service will be held at the community hall at the Senaone swimming pool in Phiri, Soweto. His funeral service will follow on Saturday at Makhaya hall in Zondi at 8am.
The news of Ngwane’s untimely death came as a shock to many fans around the country.
He cut his teeth into the acting industry in the ’90s when he was cast as shy Thiza in the groundbreaking TV series Yizo Yizo.
He went on to play the role of Dr Mdu on Zone 14, winning admirers with his powerful performances.
Following the news of his death, former colleagues, including Thembi Seete and Meshack Mavuso, spoke fondly of Ngwane and how he had managed to capture their hearts with his kindness and humble spirit.
“He was very soft-spoken and took time to get to know people. He was a genuinely nice person. I will remember him for his kind-hearted and humble spirit and for being a man who never liked drama around him,” said Seete.
Mavuso said Ngwane’s death was a great loss to the country.
“Tshepo and I met in 1998 when we were filming for Yizo Yizo. I immediately recognised that he was a hard-working person, and although he had no experience in acting, he was always willing to learn,” Mavuso, who worked with Ngwane for three years on the hit series, said.
“I hope his family knows that we have also suffered a great loss. It’s true that God wants good people,” Mavuso added.
Ngwane was born in Ermelo, Mpumalanga, and moved to Soweto in the ’90s.
A graduate of Wits Technikon’s retail management diploma programme, he also acted in Interrogation Room, Tshisa and Backstage.
Ngwane passed away at Jabulani Hospital on Tuesday last week. He was 39 years old.
